Medication Disposal

Have unwanted prescription or over-the-counter medication that you need to dispose of?

Proper disposal of unused medication is essential to ensuring the safety of our waterways and making sure extra or expired medication doesn't get into the wrong hands.

Drop off your medication at an official collection site

Most counties have official drop-off sites for unused or expired medication. See below for links to visit the Ramsey or Hennepin Counties’ websites for information about their medication drop-off locations and guidelines. If you live in a county other than Ramsey or Hennepin, we recommend visiting your county’s official website. Remember to remove all Private Health Information (PHI), such as prescription labels, from your medicine bottles/packaging before drop-off.

Donate your medication to Minnesotans in need

There are many Minnesotans that are uninsured or underinsured and cannot afford their medications or medical supplies. If you have new, unopened prescription or over-the-counter medications and/or medical supplies in their original manufacturer or bubble packaging, they may qualify for donation to Roundtable Rx, Minnesota’s Medication Repository Program. Donated products are checked by their pharmacists for quality and safety, then made available for clinics and pharmacists to order and dispense to patients in need.
