We sincerely apologize for the delay in naming the winner of the Storm Drain Naming Contest—as you all know, it’s been a wild start to 2026…
While we originally said we’d name 4 winners, we did have a single suggestion that was popular among the staff and felt special for us Hoeschens in particular: to name the drains Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Fred. Our maternal grandma and grandpa—the latter of which we lost this past August—loved the Donald Duck corner of the Disney universe. So, we’ve tweaked our original plan slightly and have decided to name the 4 storm drains on our corner: Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Mel, the last of which was the nickname of our grandfather. Congratulations to our winner, Gil! Melvin and Berta cherished our pharmacy and were regular visitors at the store while they were still here with us, becoming like family members to our more veteran staff members. We are thrilled this fun little experiment has become a way for us to honor two of our most dedicated patrons, and human beings who we miss dearly <3 Now that Huey, Dewey, Louie, and Mel are officially under our “wings” (get it, ‘cause they’re all ducks?), please help us take care of them by: Picking up trash and recycling on your way in and out of the store Notifying a staff member of any obstructed drains or large piles of trash/recycling Do the same for other drains across our community!
